Energy Center
of the Olomouc Region

What is the LIFE project?

We are a proud partner of the European LIFE programme, within which we actively contribute to the development of the Energy Living Lab project in the Olomouc Region.

The LIFE programme is the European Union’s financial instrument that supports projects focused on environmental protection, climate, and the transition to sustainable energy. The program has existed since 1992 and operates a budget of over €5.4 billion for the period 2021–2027. LIFE supports pilot and demonstration projects that bring innovative solutions in the areas of environmental sustainability.

The Energy Living Lab of the Olomouc Region is a regional innovation laboratory focused on sustainable energy and climate neutrality, and it was established as part of the LIFE program. Its goal is to create an open space for testing and implementing energy solutions in a real-life environment. It is based on the principle of the so-called Living Lab. The project has been running from October 2024 to September 2027.

The main coordinator is the Olomouc Region, and the partners are the Palacký University in Olomouc (UPOL), the Innovation Centre of the Olomouc Region (ICOK), ENSYTRA s.r.o., and ECOK.

Main objectives of the project:

  • Increase an energy efficiency of public buildings and households in the region.
  • Support the implementation of renewable energy sources (solar panels, heat pumps, etc.).
  • Engage residents and local stakeholders in co-designing and testing solutions.
  • Pilot and disseminate innovative tools, such as community energy projects or smart energy consumption management.
  • Raise awareness and knowledge about climate change and possible solutions.
